5 Habits of Mentally Strong Individuals

Do you want to feel empowered? Do you have negative thoughts, and want to become a strong-willed person? For a long time, I complained about everything in my life, and felt like it was all out of my control. I was very unhappy, especially with myself. All my thoughts consisted of negative aspects about who I was and who everyone else was. It took a serious life experience before I realized that MY LIFE was in MY HANDS. My thoughts created my reality. Tips like these can help us realign our thinking. This is how we grow and this is how we become aware of our choices and experiences.

Embrace all emotions. Sometimes it may seem easier to suppress certain feelings, but it’s really important to remember that in order to grow/learn from your experiences, you must go through the emotions. Its’ OKAY to feel sad, it’s okay to cry, and to remember time heals all. It’s healthy to be mad in certain situations, but repressing those negative emotions will stunt your full awareness of the situation, and in turn repetitive choices can happen.

Take responsibility for past and present choices. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes, and to recognize that every single choice we make may not be the right one is a humbling quality. We cannot always be right! And that is more than okay.

Take criticism. As part of my last point, we are humans with flaws, but if someone is trying to constructively give you advice, either in the workplace or in a learning environment, being able to understand that it is usually is not personal, you can grow tremendously by listening and reflecting.

Take time to be alone. Time spent alone is a beautiful part of life. Being able to be in your own company is empowering, because you will always be okay if you go through a loss, or a break up. Spending time with yourself will nourish your relationship with yourself, and in turn you will grow to love who you are.

Finally, NEVER give up! These small tips can help to ultimately change your mind-set from a negative space to a more optimistic and positive space. One of my favorite quotes reads “The more times you try, the more a chance you have at being successful” -Anonymous.

  1. Great article, Danielle! I think this is something that many people can apply to their lives. It might not be easy to keep out the bad emotions or thoughts, but when one keeps trucking through, it helps build character.
